Elena Gabouri

Nativa di San-Pietroburgo, il mezzosoprano franco-russo Elena Gabouri compie i suoi studi presso il Conservatorio Nazionale Superiore della sua città natale con Tamara Novitchenko (professoressa di Anna Netrebko); poi presso quello di Parigi (CNSM). Si perfeziona presso la Scuola Cortot di Parigi, dove ottiene il Premio di Concertista all’unanimità con congratulazioni della giuria. Elena Gabouri è vincitrice del Grand Prix al Concorso Lirico di Vivonne e al Concorso Lirico di Arles; ottiene il Premio della Giuria al Concorso di Canari, il Secondo Premio e il Premio del Pubblico al Concorso dei Paesi Catalani, il Secondo Premio al Concorso “Ramfis”.
La sua fama internazionale comincia nel 2012, quando debutta all’Arena di Verona nel ruolo di Amneris in Aida di Verdi sotto la bacchetta del maestro Daniel Oren.
Questo successo la porta all’ingaggio da sogno per un mezzo-soprano drammatico verdiano: in occasione del Festival del Centenario dell’Arena di Verona nel 2013, oltre che per il Bicentenario di Verdi, lei canta Azucena (Il Trovatore) e Amneris nella nuova produzione della Fura dels Baus come pure nell’Aida storica (De Bosio –M.Armiliato).
Nel 2014, per il terzo anno consecutivo, Elena Gabouri torna all’Arena di Verona per debuttare Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera di Verdi (Battistoni-Pizzi) e come cover di Carmen di Bizet (Kovachev – Zeffirelli). Sempre nel 2014 riprende Amneris in Aida in un altro mitico teatro all’aperto, all’Aspendos Opera Festival (Turchia). In Sardegna, a Sassari, fa il debutto nella Principessa di Bouillon di Adriana Lecouvreur di Cilea (Battistoni-Stefanutti). Nel 2015 Elena fa il suo debutto Asiatico presso il Seul Arts Center (Corea del Sud) come Amneris in Aida di Verdi (Bisanti – De Carlo). Vi torna nel 2016 per Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera. (Goldstein-Bellotto). Nel 2015 in Francia, registra il DVD di Katia Kabanova di Janacek (Kudela-Engel) nel Teatro des Bouffes du Nord di Parigi come Kabanikha, il ruolo che interpreta dal 2011 all’Operadagen Rotterdam, al Teatros del Canal di Madrid, nei teatri nazionali di Marseille, Quimper, Besançon, Perpignan, Amiens, Poitiers.
Nella stessa stagione 2015/16 Elena canta Azucena nel Trovatore di Verdi (Rizzi-Brignoli – Brunel) all’Opera Nazionale di Lille, al Grand Theater di Luxemburg e Caen.
Nell’estate 2016 Elena riprende Amneris in Aida nell’Herodes Atticus Amfiteatro (Teatro del Acropolis di Atene) per la National Opera di Atene (Mikhailidis- Castiglione). Inoltre, Elena Gabouri ha cantanto la Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica di Puccini) al Wexford Festival (Irlanda); Madame de la Haltière in Cinderella di Massenet nella Massy Opera (France); Fenena in Nabucco di Verdi con Ramfis Production (France); Miss Baggott in Let’s Make an Opera di Britten nel Besançon Opera (France); Concepcion ne L’ora spagnola di Ravel ed il ruolo-titolo di Carmen di Bizet al Teatro Nazionale Rimski-Korsakov di San-Pietroburgo (Russia). Il suo repertorio include alcuni ruoli della opera contemporanea come Irma nel Balcon di Peter Eötvös (Besançon Opera e Dijon Opera, France). Dal 2016, sotto la bacchetta di J-C Casadesus e con l’Orchestra Nazionale di Lille canta e fa delle registrazioni TV (Arte) della Nona Sinfonia di Beethoven, il Requiem di Verdi, Alto Rhapsodia di Brahms, Cantata Alexander Nevski di Prokofiev.
Nella stagione 2017-18 fa il suo debutto americano alla Seattle Opera (Fiore-Zambello) e australiano come Amneris in una nuova prodizione della Sydney Opera (Battistoni/Morandi-Livermore).
Nella stagione 2018-19 Elena tornerà negli USA alla Seattle Opera come Azucena nel Trovatore di Verdi (Montanaro-Miller). Nel 2021 Elena tornerà in Australia per la ripresa di Aida a Sydney e alla Melbourne Opera House.

Saint-Petersburg born, French-Russian mezzo Elena Gabouri studied at the St. Petersburg National Conservatoire under Tamara Novichenko (professor of Anna Netrebko); at the Paris National Conservatoire; then at the Cortot Paris School, where she won the Singing Prize Unanimous with Congratulations of the Jury. Among her international prizes: 1st Prize of Arles Opera Competition; Grand Prix of the Vivonne Singing Competition; 2nd Prize and the Audience Prize of the Catalan Singing Competition; The Jury Prize of the Corsican Competition; 2nd Prize of the Ramfis Competition.
Her international renown began in 2012 when she made her debut at the Arena di Verona as Amneris in Verdi’s Aida, with Daniel Oren conducting (“What a beautiful discovery !” – the critics wrote).
This successful debut brought forth engagements at the Centenary Festival of the Arena di Verona in 2013, as well as the Bicentennial of Verdi : Azucena in Verdi’s Il Trovatore (Carella – Zeffirelli) and Amneris in the new production by La Fura dels Baus conducted by Meir Wellbert, as well as in the historic Aida, directed by De Bosio, conducted by Marco Armiliato.
In 2014 Elena Gabouri, for the third consecutive season, comes back to the Arena di Verona for the role debut of Ulrica in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (Battistoni-Pizzi) and to cover the role of Carmen in Bizet’s opera (Kovachev – Zeffirelli). In that same 2014 she resumes Amneris in Verdi’s Aida (Gagliardo-Manizade) in the Aspendos Ancient Amphitheater in Antalya, Turkey, and she makes her debut in the role of Princess of Bouillon in Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur (Battistoni-Stefanutti) in the Theater of Sassari (Sardinia).
In 2015 she makes her Asian debut at the Seoul Arts Center (South Korea) as Amneris in Aida (Bisanti – De Carlo). She goes back there in 2016 for Ulrica in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (Goldstein-Bellotto). In 2015 in France, she records a DVD and a TV broadcast with Janacek’s Katia Kabanova (Kudela-Engel) in the Theater des Bouffes du Nord of Paris in the role of Kabanicha, role that she has played since 2011 in the Operadagen Rotterdam, in the Teatros del Canal of Madrid; on the National stages of Marseille, Quimper, Besançon, Perpignan, Amiens, Poitiers. In the same 2015/16 season she sings Azucena in Verdi’s Il Trovatore (Rizzi-Brignoli – Brunel) at the Lille National Opera (France), Grand Theater of Luxemburg and Caen (France).
In the summer of 2016 she resumes the role of Amneris in Verdi’s Aida in the Herodes Atticus Ancient Theater of Athens for the Greek National Opera. Moreover, she sings the role of Zia Principessa (Puccini’s Suor Angelica) at the Wexford Festival (Ireland); Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s Cinderella at Massy Opera (France); Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco with the Ramfis Production (France); Miss Baggott from Britten’s Let’s Make an Opera in the Besançon Opera (France); Concepcion in Ravel’s L’heure espagnole and the title role of Bizet’s Carmen in the Rimski-Korsakov theater of Saint-Petersburg.
Under the baton of Vassily Petrenko, Elena Gabouri records a CD of Fleishmann’s The Rothshild’s Violin, in the role of Marfa with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her repertoire includes the roles of contemporary opera such as Irma in Peter Eötvös’s Le Balcon (Besançon Opera and Dijon Opera, France). Since 2016, under the baton of Jean-Claude Casadesus and with Lille National Orchestra Elena Gabouri has sung the Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky.
In the 2017-2018 season Elena Gabouri makes her American and Australian debuts as Amneris in Verdi’s Aida: at the Seattle Opera (John Fiore – Francesca Zambello) and at the Sydney Opera House for the new digital production (Andrea Battistoni/Pier Giorgio Morandi – Davide Livermore).
In 2019 Elena Gabouri goes back to the Seattle Opera for Azucena in Verdi’s Il Trovatore (Montanaro-Miller).
In 2020 Elena goes back to Australia for the reprise of Aida in Sydney and Melbourne Opera Houses.
